Since most automotive oils take into account fuel economy and emissions, the balance of volatility and high and low temperature rheology must be considered. In order to meet the CCS requirements of SAE multigrade oils, the balance between the low viscosity base oil and the viscosity index improver must be considered at low temperature. The lower the viscosity of the base oil, the larger the amount of VII added, the higher the CCS value, and the higher the evaporation loss. Under high temperature conditions, in addition to the kinematic viscosity requirements at 100 °C, the selection of VII should also consider the minimum viscosity requirements of SAE for high temperature and high shear.
Different chemical types of viscosity index agents have different effects on the CCS low temperature viscosity, viscosity index and high temperature and high shear viscosity of oil products. Therefore, the choice of viscosity index improvers with different types and shear stability will greatly affect the ratio of each component in the oil, and greatly affect the production cost.
