Information

Polyisobutylene is a general term for the homopolymer products of isobutylene (2-methylpropylene). Due to the different ways of chain termination of polyisobutylene, there are many types of double bonds at the end of the isobutylene molecule generated by the reaction: binary substituted double bonds (α -terminal double bond), triple substituted double bond, quaternary substituted double bond. The proportion of various types of substituted double bonds depends on the performance of the catalyst, the reaction temperature and the reaction period. The longer the reaction period, the easier it is to generate quaternary and ternary substituted double bonds with better chemical stability.

High Active Polyisobutene

When aluminum trichloride is used as a catalyst, most of the double bonds at the end of the isobutene molecule produced by the reaction are ternary substituted double bonds, followed by quaternary substituted double bonds, and the least binary substituted double bonds (10%). When using boron trifluoride as a catalyst, most of the double bonds at the end of the isobutene molecule produced by the reaction are binary substituted double bonds (70%-85%), followed by ternary substituted double bonds, and the least quaternary substituted double bonds.
Low molecular weight polyisobutylene with high α-terminal double bond content is highly reactive polyisobutylene (HRPIB; Highly Reactive Polyisobutylene), which is prominent in many application fields and can be used as an intermediate for the production of various derivatives. In addition, high-activity polyisobutylene has broad application prospects in the fields of emulsion explosives, surfactants, detergents and rust inhibitors.
